The Department of Kurdish Linguistics and Literature was established with the objective of conducting rigorous, fundamental, and scientific studies of the Kurdish language and its literary heritage. By integrating precise linguistic analyses—such as syntax, morphosyntax, typology, and the dialectology of Iranian languages—with an in-depth exploration of Kurdish literary trends and history, the department provides a comprehensive academic platform for advanced research. An analytical understanding of these linguistic structures, coupled with the critical review of literary texts, not only aids in preserving a dynamic cultural legacy but also plays a crucial role in comprehending the region's broader linguistic and literary diversity.

To undertake specialized studies of Kurdish literature, encompassing the critical analysis of literary trends and the comprehensive examination of its literary history.
To systematically document, preserve, and analytically study the region's oral heritage and folklore.
To author, localize, and standardize educational materials and textbooks for the academic instruction of Kurdish linguistics and literature.
To compile specialized and general dictionaries, enriching the academic reference corpus and linguistic databases.

The department proudly publishes the Journal of Kurdish Literature (https://jokl.uok.ac.ir). This publication holds the distinction of being the only academic journal in the field of Kurdish language and literature officially approved and recognized by the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology.
