Researh priorities
In the long term, the department aims to establish a network of environmental elites and specialists. This network will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience among academia, executive agencies, and the general public. By developing a comprehensive, research-based data repository, the department strives to ensure the conservation and sustainability of natural ecosystems, with a special focus on Zrebar Lake.
As a testament to its commitment to advancing environmental research, the department successfully organized the "First National Conference on Zrebar Lake Environmental Studies" in 2025. This prominent academic event marked a significant milestone, drawing national attention to the critical environmental, conservation, and sustainable development issues surrounding this invaluable ecosystem.
Currently, the department operates through five specialized research groups. Its core membership primarily consists of faculty members from the Faculty of Natural Resources at the University of Kurdistan, alongside researchers from other national universities and research centers. Looking ahead, the department envisions expanding its research groups to eventually evolve into an independent research center, fulfilling its mission through educational workshops, applied research projects, and networking with environmental stakeholders.
